“Every time I lose a dog they take a piece of my heart with them…”
A quotation about dogs was posted on the newsgroup rec.pets.dogs.behavior on December 12, 2006:
“‘It came to me that every time I lose a dog they take a piece of my heart with them. And every new dog who comes into my life gifts me with a piece of their heart. If I live long enough, all the components of my heart will be dog, and I will become as generous and loving as they are.’ (Cheryl Zuccaro)”
The saying has been printed on many images. “It came to me that” is often removed, and it often starts with “Every time I lose a dog.” More details about Cheryl Zuccato and when she said this are not known.

Thinking of you. The following quote helped me after the loss of Gracie:
“It came to me that every time I lose a dog they take a piece of my heart with them. And every new dog who comes into my life gifts me with a piece of their heart. If I live long enough, all the components of my heart will be dog, and I will become as generous and loving as they are.”
