East Harlem’s first International Film Festival debuts this week, featuring 42 films from around the world as well as East Harlem. The festival runs through Sunday.
 
“Our goal is to put El Barrio on the map as a global hub of talent and creativity,” says Raphael Benavides, co-founder of EHIFF. “As a longtime resident of the neighborhood and active member in the arts community, this festival is long overdue.”
 
Categories include narrative features, documentary features and short films. Seven of the films in this year’s festival have been made by East Harlem filmmakers.
