“Don’t California my Texas”

“Don’t California my Texas” is a saying that has been printed on many images. California is a blue state (Democrat) and Texas is mostly a red state (Republican). The message is that people who move from California to Texas shouldn’t take their political values with them.

“Don’t California my Texas @ralphprovance” was posted on Twitter by JeffreyBco on March 10, 2013. “Don’t California My Texas” was posted on Twitter by Will Franklin on August 17, 2013. “Don’t California MY Texas” was posted on Twitter by GusMcCrae on October 22, 2013. The Republican Party of Texas filed for a trademark (now dead) on “DON’T CALIFORNIA MY TEXAS” on May 15, 2014, with a date of first use of January 28, 2014.

“Don’t New York my Florida” and “Don’t Canada my America/Florida/Texas” are similar slogans.

Lone Star Jam turns it up at LBJ Library Lawn

An ironic political note: Though the Lone Star Jam was held on the LBJ Library Lawn, it was co-sponsored by the Republican Party of Texas, which had a small booth near the back of the grounds with signs sporting slogans such as “Don’t California My Texas!” Not all of the musicians performing at the event were Republican supporters.

Texans: 10 Reasons Why You Should Love Thy California Neighbor
BY ELIZABETH ABRAHAM
As far as odd couples go, Felix and Oscar have nothing on California and Texas. If you were to put two states side by side and declare that they were opposites, you could probably do that with the Golden State and the Lone Star State. “Don’t California my Texas” tee-shirts and bumper stickers have recently popped up in response to the large influx of California Texans. Any time California is mentioned here in the Lone Star State you’re bound to hear a collective sigh of irritation from listeners

When they say don’t California my Texas or don’t New York my Florida, they are not talking about fellow patriots. Good luck.

Don’t California My Texas—History of a Polarizing Phrase
BY REFORM AUSTIN STAFF -JANUARY 17, 2020
(...)
Alongside this trend, conservative politicians have created a narrative suggesting that their political views are the true Texas values, in opposition to California “far-left policies.” In 2018, during Gov. Greg Abbott’s re-election campaign, a petition was posted to his website that stated, “don’t California my Texas”.

This phrase represents a partisan resistance to change and attempts to pit residents of the two states against each other.

“Don’t California my Texas!”

If you hang out on news outlet Facebook pages you have probably seen this statement any time a story about Texas becoming Blue shows up. Down in the comment sections, a never-ending horde of middle-aged white people, many of them holding fish in their profile pics for some reason, scream that Texas should not become California by moving left.

Don’t California my Texas. If you want to move here and escape Democrat rule that’s great as long as you vote for conservative values once you get here.

The “Don’t California my Texas” movement is propped up by the lower and middle class that buy into the propaganda from people like Cruz and Abbott that it’s Democrats fleeing California to destroy Texas.
It’s not.
It’s rich Republicans fleeing taxes.

Texas has so many additional taxes that its burden is actually higher than California’s for middle-class people.
California’s taxes on rich people are significantly higher than Texas. That’s actually why GOP commentators whine about CA taxes https://bloomberg.com/opinion/articles/2021-05-19/wait-california-has-lower-middle-class-taxes-than-te
