The closer you get to the intersection of Flatbush and Atlantic avenues, where the proposed NBA arena and 17 high-rise buildings are slated to go, the darker the green. Outside of DoBro, BoCoCa, Park Slope, Prospect Heights, Fort Greene, Williamsburg and Greenpoint, Mettera got almost no votes.

DoBro Rising: Gold Street To Become New Gold Coast
By Nik Kovac
It will no longer be Gold Street in name only. The DoBro thoroughfare, which runs north from Albee Square on Fulton Mall, across Flatbush Avenue and through the Farragut housing projects on its way to DUMBO’s former warehouses, is about to get two market-rate residential towers, taller than anything of its kind the borough has ever seen.

This neighborhood really is getting cleaned up. Literally
Apparently, the Doe Fund, with the creation of the Court Livingston Schermerhorn BID, has begun steam cleaning the streets in Downtown Brooklyn. They will also be removing graffiti in an ongoing beautification project aimed at creating a new perception of DoBro.

LIC vs DoBro: LIC lacks amenities? You don’t say…
December 20, 2007
I’ve been reading the Streeteasy message boards about LIC. Interesting stuff. One thread was a throwdown between LIC and Downtown Brooklyn (newly dubbed as DoBro). DoBro won on the amenities, since LIC’s $/sqft for luxury condos seems to be in about the same range. YES. DoBro should win on the amenities, but is that all a neighborhood comes down to? LIC never was, will be, or wants to be Downtown Brooklyn. LIC’s an industrial neighborhood that’s been heavily rezoned and introducing the largest influx of residents in its history. DoBro, while it was and is a major commercial district, was not primarily an industrial hub and has a totally different aesthetic. It also has the Fulton Mall.

Downtown Brooklyn, Where Luxury Condos Meet Their Working Class Cousins
11:54 AM MONDAY, JANUARY 21, 2008
Downtown Brooklyn is taking a big stretch upwards. It has even acquired its own silly-hip nickname, DoBro. However, in spite of all the hype about booming office construction, there are plenty of places to sleep that don’t involve resting your head on a fax machine. Luxury condos are especially in vogue, though the residential stock also includes everything from a surprising amount of co-op listings to townhouses that may have been part of the historic Underground Railroad.

Downtown Brooklyn Invasion Begins, But Who’s Moving?
Thursday, January 24, 2008, by Joey
The long-heralded transition of Downtown Brooklyn from glorified office park to sleepy little residential neighborhood is finally starting. Bradley Hope reports in the Sun today that the first two weeks of January saw nearly 150 units in DoBro completed and occupied. And because this is Brooklyn and not Manhattan, the units are actually being inhabited by New Yorkers who intend on using them as homes!
