Cowboy Cut (jeans)
Levi’s began mass producing jeans in the 1920s; Levi’s has long claimed to be the original “cowboy jeans.” Several different brands of jeans (including Levi’s) advertised “cowboy cut” jeans in the late 1940s and 1950s.
In 1965, Wrangler trademarked the term “cowboy cut” and used the term prominently in advertising. In 2001, Wrangler applied for a trademark for “A Cowboy Cut Above.”
The term “cowboy cut” is also used in the food service industry, such as “cowboy cut” ribeye steaks.
Wikipedia: Wrangler Jeans
Wrangler is one of the oldest and most popular jeans brands in the world. The brand is owned by the VF Corporation, who also own Lee, JanSport and The North Face, among others.
Wrangler Jeans were first made by Blue Bell, who acquired the brand when they took over Casey Jones in the mid-1940s. Blue Bell employed Bernard Lichtenstein (“Rodeo Ben”), a Polish tailor who worked closely with cowboys, to help design jeans suitable for rodeo use. Wrangler Jeans were born. The popular 13MWZ style, introduced in 1947, is still available worldwide.
