Christmas Capital of Texas (Grapevine nickname)
The city of Grapevine (a suburb of Fort Worth) holds many Christmas events. The nickname “Christmas Capital of Texas” was trademarked by the Grapevine Convention & Visitors Bureau with a first use of March 2008.
In 2009, Grapevine attempted to get “Christmas Capital of Texas” officially designated by the Texas legislature. However, Arlington and Fort Worth representatives claimed that their cities also hold many Christmas celebrations. Texas Legislature Online shows that the “Christmas Capital of Texas” resolution was withdrawn from calendar on May 27, 2009. However, Grapevine still advertises “Christmas Capital of Texas,” even though it is not an official capital.
Wikipedia: Grapevine, Texas
Grapevine is a city and suburb of Fort Worth located in the U.S. state of Texas. The city is almost entirely located in northeast Tarrant County, with small portions extending into neighboring Dallas and Denton counties. As of the 2010 census the city population was 46,334. The city’s moniker is derived from the native grapes prevalent in the area. In recent years several wineries have opened in Grapevine, and the city has been very active in maintaining its historic downtown corridor. The city is adjacent to Grapevine Lake, a large reservoir impounded by the Army Corps of Engineers in 1952 and serves as both a source of water and recreational area. Part of Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport is located within Grapevine city limits, the largest portion of any municipality bordering the facility. In 2007 CNNMoney.com rated Grapevine as one of “America’s Best Places to Live.”

Grapevine the Christmas Capital of Texas? Not so fast
AUSTIN - A resolution proclaiming Grapevine as the Christmas Capital of Texas got iced in the state House on Sunday in a tedium-breaking face-off between three Tarrant County representatives.
At one of the end of the House chamber was Rep. Vicki Truitt, R-Keller, who sponsored the resolution. At the other end were Reps. Paula Pierson, D-Arlington, and Lon Burnam, D-Fort Worth, who clearly didn’t like it.
Truitt, in trying to help Grapevine make its case, noted that the city has 1,400 Christmas activities, including “North Pole Express” at the Grapevine Vintage Railroad, “Christmas on Main” entertainers and the “Christmas Gnome Village” at the Torian Log Cabin.
But Pierson fired back with plenty of examples from Arlington, which prides itself as one of Texas’ leading entertainment destinations.

No better place to spend #Christmas, but GV is not the “official” Christmas Cap of TX and the CVB shouldn’t say so. http://bit.ly/GzHMzj
