Wikipedia: Chip butty
A chip butty is a sandwich made with chips (i.e., French fried potatoes) on buttered white bread or a bread roll, often with an added condiment, such as brown sauce, mayonnaise, or malt vinegar. The chip butty can be found in fish and chip shops and other casual dining establishments in the United Kingdom. It is also less commonly known as a chip sandwich, chip batch, chip roll, chip muffin, piece and chips, chip piece, or chip sarnie. In Australia, the sandwich is commonly known as a chip sanger.
One variation is the chip bap or chip barm, which uses a floury bap or barm cake instead of sliced white bread. In the East Midlands a chip butty made with a bread roll is referred to as a chip cob.

The Chip Butty: A Seriously British Sandwich
BY FERNE ARFIN
Updated 11/15/18
A chip butty, a sandwich made of French fries, is a food phenomenon that could only happen in Britain where the humble spud is a food group all its own.
Every country seems to have its own versions of “heart attack on a plate” foods and Britain is no exception. One of these may be the chip butty. It’s basically a sandwich of french fries, or chips as they’re called in the UK, between bread slathered with butter (thus the name “butty”).
