“Can a turkey jump higher than the Empire State Building?” (riddle)

New York City’s 102-story Empire State Building opened in 1931 and was the tallest building in the world until 1970. A popular Thanksgiving turkey riddle is:

Q: Can a turkey jump higher than the Empire State Building?
A: Of course. The Empire State Building can’t jump.

“I can jump as high as the Woolworth building”—the original form of the joke/riddle, referring to New York City’s Woolworth Building—was cited in print in 1919. The Thanksgiving turkey riddle was posted to the newsgroup alt.humor.puns on November 29, 2002.

A 2009 discussion about “Just how high can a turkey jump?” is on the website Homesteading Today.
