“Calling someone a ‘tough cookie’ is not a compliment, tough cookies are literally the worst cookies”
Calling someone a “tough cookie” is usually a compliment, meaning that the person is physically and/or emotionally strong. The person is “tough” and a “cookie” (something desirable); “smart cookie” is a similar term. However, taken literally, a “tough cookie” is unpleasant to eat.

I was just told today that I’m a tough cookie. Is that a compliment or an insult?

Is tough cookie really a compliment? Because that would mean the cookie is hard and I don’t know if you know, but hard cookies are no good.

People are always calling people a “tough cookie” like it’s a compliment. Tough cookies are terrible! I’d rather be a warm soft cookie.

I think calling someone a “tough cookie” as a testament to their resiliency isn’t quite the compliment people think it is.
No one wants a tough cookie. No, they want the exact opposite, a soft cookie that brings them happy feelings.
Not a disappointing , tough cookie that you have to gnaw on and wish you had something to drink nearby to wash it down.

I got a random question that popped into my head last night… why do ppl take the words “you’re a tough cookie” as a compliment? Idk about anyone else, but a tough cookie does not sound good at all. Who the hell wants to be a tough cookie
