Buzz Bar (coffee and alcohol bar)

A “buzz bar” is a coffee bar or coffeehouse that serves alcohol as well as coffee. The term “buzz bar” was popularized by the article “New buzz bars serve beer and wine, as well as java” in the Indianapolis (IN) Star on September 11, 2012.

Several establishments have called themselves “Buzz Bar,” although they might not fit the new definition. Buzz Bar opened in Detroit in 2006 and featured three bars—one for coffee drinks, one for martinis and one for all other drinks. Pershing Square (located opposite Grand Central Terminal at 42nd Street and Park Avenue) has what it calls a “Buzz Bar.” A very different “buzz bar” is the bee pollen energy bar.
