Brooklyn Country Music
The music group The Lone Bellow was born at Dizzy’s Diner in Park Slope, Brooklyn, in 2010. The group has called its sound “Brooklyn country music.” “This is Brooklyn Country Music” was cited on Twitter on October 24, 2012. A review on AllMusic by Steve Leggett stated on January 23, 2013:
“Although the Lone Bellow claim to play ‘Brooklyn country music’ (and there is a kind of contemporary country tone to their sound), there’s a lot of other stuff mixed in there, from blues, gospel, folk, and slow-burning soul to indie-style rock, and there’s a pop sheen too, made quietly powerful by being unassuming about it.”
The term “Brooklyn country music” could potentially also apply to other groups.
Wikipedia: The Lone Bellow
The Lone Bellow is an American musical group from Brooklyn.
History
The Lone Bellow began as a songwriting project for Zach Williams, whose wife had suffered temporary paralysis following a horseback riding accident. Following the tragedy, Williams learned how to play the guitar.[citation needed] Eventually he pursued a career in music due to his wide vocal range, and his lyrics. Williams and Brian Elmquist had known each other as college students in Lynchburg, Virginia.
The Brooklyn-based group started their career when the Lone Bellow’s guitarist and old friend, Brian Elmquist met at Dizzy’s Diner in Park Slope. Initially known as Zach Williams and the Bellow, the band shortened its name to The Lone Bellow before putting out any official releases.

The sound, which they call “Brooklyn Country Music,” weaves together cascading three-part harmonies, exuberant rhythms, and unaffected lyrics—a recipe for the emotional, yet joyful music influenced by the band’s southern roots.

This Brooklyn trio could be the next big thing in acoustic music.
The Lone Bellow looks to be 2013’s breakout folk-rock act, in the vein of The Lumineers, Mumford & Sons or the Civil Wars.
The group – which consists of Zach Williams, 31; Kanene Pipkin, 27; and Brian Elmquist, 31 – has dubbed its style “Brooklyn country music” and is generating big buzz for the full-throated, gospel-influenced harmonies of its self-titled debut album, released Jan. 15.
