BOAT (Break Out Another Thousand)
Owning a boat can be very expensive. The joke that “boat” is an acronym for “Blow/Break/Bring/Bust Out Another Thousand (dollars)” has been cited in print since at least 1995.
“BOAT really stood for: Break Out Another Thousand” was posted on the newsgroup rec.boats on May 3, 1995. “Boat is short for “bring out another thousand”” was posted on the newsgroup rec.boats.cruising on April 6, 1996. “B.O.A.T. = Bust Out Another Thousand” was posted on the newsgroup rec.outdoors.fishing.saltwater on November 22, 1996. ” BOAT= Bring over another thousand” was posted on the newsgroup alt.sailing.asa on December 19, 1998. “BOAT Blow Out Another Thousand” was posted on Twitter by Arsenal Top of the League on July 31, 2012.
Other sayings about boat ownership include “The two happiest days of a man’s life—the day he bought the boat and the day he sold the boat” and “A boat is a hole in the water into which you pour money.”

> William MurphyI heard a great description for the definition of a boat while standing in line at West Marine. Boat is short for “bring out another thousand”. This is a VERY realistic description for any mayor purchase on a decent size (>30 feet) boat.

PEORIA, Ill. — Dick Winkler says most boaters won’t drop anchor this summer despite fuel costs that could top a wallet-squeezing $3.50 a gallon at Illinois marinas.
“You know what boat stands for, don’t you? `Break Out Another Thousand (dollars),’” Winkler joked as he spruced up his houseboat at a Peoria marina. “You gotta fill those puppies up. ... We’ll cut back someplace else.”
