“Big Apple” nightclub (The Three Faces of Eve film, 1957)

The Three Faces of Eve is an American mystery drama film, written and directed by Nunnally Johnson (1897-1977). Joanne Woodward won an Academy Award for her roles(s) of a woman with dissociative identity disorder.

Several lines of the film mention a nightclub called “Big Apple.” It is not clear where the fictional “Big Apple” nightclub is located. “One night Ralph had to go to Savannah, so I went over to the Big Apple and I got kinda gassed up” is a line in the film. “But I (Eve Black—etc.) sang in nightclubs, a lot of ‘em.” / “Where?” / “Well, across the river’s one. The Big Apple. You ever been there?” is some dialogue. One IMDb (The Internet Movie Database) comment is, “The film is a true story and takes place between 1951 and 1953 in a small town not too far from New York City.” Would “across the river” refer to the Hudson River?

“Big Apple” and “Eve” probably allude to the biblical story of Adam & Eve and the forbidden fruit (said by some to be an apple).

Joanne Woodward was married to actor Paul Newman (1925-2008). In the film Slap Shot (1977), Newman would say, “The Minnesota Night Hawks. I’m coaching. The Big Apple!”

Wikipedia: The Three Faces of Eve
The Three Faces of Eve is a 1957 American mystery drama film presented in CinemaScope, based on the book of the same name about the life of Chris Costner Sizemore, which was written by psychiatrists Corbett H. Thigpen and Hervey M. Cleckley, who also helped write the screenplay. Sizemore, also known as Eve White, was a woman they suggested might have dissociative identity disorder (then known as multiple personality disorder). Sizemore’s identity was concealed in interviews about this film and was not revealed to the public until 1977. The film was directed by Nunnally Johnson.
