“Big Apple” lyric in the Lynyrd Skynyrd song “I’m a Country Boy” (1975)
“I’m a Country Boy” is a song on the album Nuthin’ Fancy (1975) by the Southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd. The singer is a country boy, and New York City is not for him.
The song begins:
“New York City is a thousand miles away
And if you ask me, I’ll tell you that’s okay
Now I’m not trying to put the big apple down
Because they don’t need a man like me in town”

[Verse 1]
New York City is a thousand miles away
And if you ask me, I’ll tell you that’s okay
Now I’m not trying to put the big apple down
Because they don’t need a man like me in town
I pick cotton down on the Dixie line
Work hard all day trying to make a dime
