Big Apple Concession (City Park in New Orleans, 1947-1949)

Polk’s New Orleans City Directories are partially available through Ancestry.com (a pay service). The term “Big Apple” was used in 1920 by a stablehand at the Fair Grounds race track in New Orleans, and the city had some establishments that were called “Big Apple.”
   
“Big Apple Concession The Geo Gravois and Rbt O’Neal mgrs City Park” was listed in Polk’s New Orleans City Directory (1947). “Big Apple Concession The City Park” was listed in Polk’s New Orleans City Directory (1949).
 
“Big Apple Bar (Alphonse Butler) 8644 Hickory” was listed in Polk’s New Orleans City Directory (1952), “Big Apple Bar (Alphonse Butler) 8638 Hickory” in Polk’s New Orleans City Directory (1954), “Big Apple Bar (Alphonse & Mrs Cora Butler) liquors 8638 Hickory” in Polk’s New Orleans City Directory (1956) and “Big Apple Bar & Restaurant (Alphonse Butler) 8638 Hickory” in Polk’s New Orleans City Directory (1958 and 1960).
   
“Big Apple Restaurant and Bar” at 1101 S. Rampart was printed in The Times-Picayune (New Orleans, LA) on August 20, 1955. “Big Apple Bar (Nicholas Palozzola) 1528 S Rampart” was listed in Polk’s New Orleans City Directory (1956).
