Hozea Massiah (1971-2025) was known as “Swagg Boss” and especially as “Big Apple.” He was a Toronto hip-hop entrepreneur who had the clothing lines “I’m Not A Rapper” and “DRÜGS.” There were tributes following his death on May 6, 2025.

🕊️It breaks my heart to share the devastating news that my biggest mentor, Hozea Massiah — also known as Big Apple aka Swagg Boss — has passed away and is now watching over us from heaven. 🕊️
I first met Big Apple in the summer of 2005 when I was just 19 years old. From the moment we connected, he took me under his wing and believed in me. He cosigned me on his platform — Big Apple’s World TV — where he interviewed me and the Kamakacci team, helping shine a light on what we were building.
Shortly after, we teamed up to throw our first event together: “100 Models, 100 Bottles” at Fluid.
We traveled together, broke bread together, and had countless conversations — always in person — where he would school me, share wisdom, and put me on game that shaped who I am today.
I’ll always be grateful for the bond we shared — a true brotherhood.
I love you forever, man.

Remembering Hozea Massiah, a.k.a. Big Apple: A Cultural Icon and Mentor
The entertainment community is mourning the loss of Hozea Massiah at age of 54, widely known as Big Apple or Swagg Boss, who was a significant figure in the hip-hop scene, leaving an indelible mark from Toronto to Atlanta, Las Vegas, Cancun, Miami, Los Angeles, and New York.
Massiah’s influence extended beyond music; he was a mentor and a beacon of inspiration for many. He once had a television show that captured the current day hip hop culture entitled Big Apple World TV. He would show the latest trends and interviews with rising artists such as a young Keshia Chante in the video below.
