Zohran Mamdani became New York City’s first Muslim mayor when he took office in 2026. Conservative political commentator Mark Steyn wrote the article “Big Apple, Big Allah” on October 24, 2025, before Mamdani was elected. “Migrant Mamdani Jr is going to turn the Big Apple into the Big Allah” was posted on X/Twitter by Patrick Russell on October 26, 2025.
In July 2026, Mamdani’s administration released the map “New York City Immigrant Enclaves,” and some people were furious that Italians (“Little Italy”) and Irish (“Little Ireland”) were left off the map. American stand-up comedian and television personality Jimmy Failla said on the Fox News talk show The Five on July 9, 2026:
“He (Mayor Mamdani—ed.) also went after the Irish, okay, and seems to be fancying the map as if New York is no longer the Big Apple. It’s the Big Allah. It seems antagonistic on purpose and it burns my—I’m a little upset.”

Mayor Zohran Mamdani caught some Italian heat Wednesday after releasing a map of the Big Apple’s ethnic enclaves that includes places like Little Palestine — but ignores historic Little Italy and other notable Irish and Jewish immigrant nabes.
The map, titled “New York City Immigrant Enclaves,” highlights 30 areas across the five boroughs, ranging from Koreatown in Manhattan to Little Pakistan in Brooklyn and Little Yemen in The Bronx.

There has been no announcement by City Hall in NYC to specifically fix this map and add Little Italy, I’ve verified it
City Hall has stated they plan to add more areas, but there has been no announcement to fix this
This is no shock to anyone paying attention
