“Be nice to America or we’ll bring democracy to your country”

“Be nice to America or we’ll bring democracy to your country” is a popular bumper sticker saying. Dan R. Frazier of CarryABigSticker.com possibly coined the saying, which has been cited in print since 2005—just after the United States entered conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Be nice to America. Or we’ll bring democracy to your country.
I’m not sure what to say about this one. Uh, it has something to do with Iraq I think ... or maybe Afghanistan. My wife said it’s kind of sad. I think she is right about that.

Dan Frazier seems an unlikely sort to spark a national firestorm. The soft-spoken former journalist runs a left-leaning website in Flagstaff, Ariz., offering political T-shirts and other items with such slogans as “Be Nice to America or We’ll Bring Democracy to Your Country.”
