“Avocados are fruits. Guacamole is avocado jam”

Guacamole is made with avocados. Some people have pointed out that an avocado is a fruit, so this means that guacamole is a jam. Jams are made with added sugar, however, and no one seriously considers guacamole to be a jam.

“If avocado is a fruit, is guacamole jam?” is an avocado saying that was posted on Twitter by iD Tech on October 25, 2010. “If an avocado is a fruit, does that mean that guacamole is technically jam?” was posted on Twitter on August 15, 2015. “If avocado is a fruit then gucamole is jam” was posted on Reddit—Showerthoughts on August 27, 2017. “Avocados are fruits. Wikipedia: Avocado
The avocado (Persea americana) is a tree, long thought to have originated in South Central Mexico, classified as a member of the flowering plant family Lauraceae. Recent archaeological research produced evidence that the avocado was present in Peru as long as 8,000 to 15,000 years ago. Avocado (also alligator pear) refers to the tree’s fruit, which is botanically a large berry containing a single large seed.

Wikipedia: Guacamole
Guacamole (Spanish: [wakaˈmole]; or [ɡwakaˈmole]; sometimes informally referred to as “guac” in North America) is an avocado-based dip, spread, or salad first developed by the Aztecs in what is now Mexico. In addition to its use in modern Mexican cuisine, it has become part of international and American cuisine as a dip, condiment and salad ingredient.

Wikipedia: Fruit preserves
Jam refers to a product made of whole fruit cut into pieces or crushed, then heated with water and sugar until it reaches “jelling” or “setting” point, achieved through the action of natural or added pectin, then sealed in containers.

Did you know avocado is considered a fruit? More specifically: a single-seed berry?
So, does that make guacamole a type of jam or preserves?

jam is a preserve, so, unless your guacamole is like half sugar or drenched in preservatives… no.

Doesn’t jam have a lot of sugar and pectin added? Ugh. Avocado jam actually sounds terrible.

Guacamole is jam. Avocado is fruit. Jam is made of blended fruit. Guacamole is made of blended avocado.

Avocado is a botanical fruit. There are many things that botanic fruits that we do not eat.
Fruit is a botanical and culinary term. Avocado is not a culinary fruit.
Jam is a thick, stewed sauce thickened with pectin, tho there are some exceptions (bacon jam).
Apple sauce, and smoothies are blended fruit and aren’t jams.
