“April 1st: the only day people critically evaluate things on the internet before believing them”

“April 1st: the only day of the year people critically evaluate things they find on the internet before accepting them as true” is an April Fool’s Day saying that has been printed on many images.

“April Fool’s Day: ‘It’s the one day of the year when people critically evaluate news articles before accepting them as true’” was posted on Twitter by Gen Williams on April 1, 2015. “April Fool’s Day is the one day of the year when people critically evaluate news articles before accepting them as true” was posted on Reddit—Showerthoughts later on April 1, 2015, and this saying went viral.

Since April Fools’ Day in 2016, “news articles” has usually been replaced with “internet.” “‘1st April: the only day of the year people critically evaluate things they find on the Internet before accepting them as true.’ #AprilFools” was posted on Twitter by Alexandria okonska (and others) on April 1, 2016. “The 1st of April is the only day of the year that people critically evaluate things they read on the Internet before accepting them as true” was posted on Reddit—Showerthoughts on April 1, 2018. “Ahh, the 1st of April: the only day people critically evaluate things on the Internet before believing them” was posted on Facebook by im not right in the head.com on April 2, 2021.

“Now that April Fool’s day is over, everything on the internet is true again” (April 2) is a related saying.

Wikipedia: April Fools’ Day
April Fools’ Day or April Fool’s Day is an annual custom on April 1 consisting of practical jokes and hoaxes. Jokesters often expose their actions by shouting “April Fools!” at the recipient. Mass media can be involved in these pranks, which may be revealed as such the following day. The day is not a public holiday in any country except Odessa, Ukraine, where the first of April is an official city holiday. The custom of setting aside a day for playing harmless pranks upon one’s neighbour has been relatively common in the world historically.
