“A simile walks into a bar…” (bar joke)
“A guy walks into a bar…” is a typical form of what has been called the “bar joke.” A simile version is:
“A simile walks into a bar, as parched as a desert.”
“A simile walks into a bar. Bartender: ‘What would you like?’ A metaphor walks into a bar: ‘What’ll it be?’” is a joke that was posted on Twitter by Nein Quarterly on January 22, 2014. “A simile walks into a bar. Barman : we dont serve the likes of you here” was posted on Twitter on January 25, 2016.
“A simile walks into a bar, as parched as a desert” was posted on Language Matters on September 20, 2014. (This date may be incorrect.) The simile joke became popular in February 2018.
