What is the volume of pizza? “Silly ObPuzzle: My local pizza delivery company is called Perfect Pizza. This means that not only do the pizzas taste perfect but they are also perfectly circular and perfectly uniform in depth. They’ve just delivered a pizza with depth a, and radius z. What is its volume?” was posted on the newsgroup rec.puzzles on September 19, 1997. “Did you know that the word ‘pizza’ is a mathematical formula? It is the volume of a circular pizza of radius ‘z’ and thickness ‘a’” was posted on the newgroup geometry.puzzles on February 27, 1998. “Volume of a pizza of thickness ‘a’ and radius ‘z’ is given by pi z z a” was posted on the newsgroup sci.electronics.design on March 9, 2006. ” A pizza of radius z and thickness a has a volume of pi z z a” was posted on Twitter by Selem on March 12, 2007. “A pizza with radius ‘z’, and thickness ‘a’ has a volume of Pi*z*z*a” was posted on Twitter by Ric on December 25, 2010.
Wikipedia: Pizza
Pizza (Italian: [ˈpittsa], Neapolitan: [ˈpittsə]) is a dish of Italian origin consisting of a usually round, flattened base of leavened wheat-based dough topped with tomatoes, cheese, and often various other ingredients (such as anchovies, mushrooms, onions, olives, pineapple, meat, etc.), which is then baked at a high temperature, traditionally in a wood-fired oven.

I saw a cute mnemonic on a math web site the other day….they were talking about the volume of a somewhat-idealized cylindrical pizza of radius z and thickness (height) a:
Volume = pi暘暘戢

If we assume the pizza is cylindrical of radius z and height a, then the volume is
V = π*z^2 * a = Pi*z*z*a

And if you take that height to be ‘a’ and it’s radius to be ‘z’ its volume is equal to pizz*a

I used pizza to help my kids calculate the volume of a cylinder. Imagine a pizza is a squat cylinder of height ‘a’ and radius z. It’s volume is therefore pi.z.z.a

A pizza that has radius “z” and height “a” has volume Pi × z × z × a .A pizza is basically a very short cylinder, and that’s how you calculate its volume. https://myatechedu.wordpress.com/2019/03/02/a-pizza-that-has-radius-z-and-height-a-has-volume-pi-x-z-x-z-x-a-a-pizza-is-basically-a-very-short-cylinder-and-thats-how-you-calculate-it/

What do you mean? If the pizza is a cylinder (which is part of the joke) and the base has a radius z and the cylinder has height a, then its volume is given by
V = πz^2a, or
V = Pizza

The volume of a pizza with radius z and height a is pi z z a!
A pizza is approximately the shape of a cylinder, so to get its volume, we have to multiply its area by its height. Thus the volume V of a pizza with height a is given by
V=a⋅ A = pi ⋅ z ⋅ z ⋅ a! That’s it.
