“A Marxist is someone who loves humanity in groups of one million or more”
Marxists often talk about groups, not individuals. There’s a joke:
“A Marxist is someone who loves humanity in groups of one million or more.”
The political joke has been cited in print since at least 2005, when it was called an “old definition” of a Marxist.
Wikipedia: Marxism
Marxism is a method of socioeconomic analysis that analyzes class relations and societal conflict using a materialist interpretation of historical development and a dialectical view of social transformation. It originates from the mid-to-late 19th century works of German philosophers Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels.
Marxist methodology originally used a method of economic and sociopolitical inquiry known as historical materialism to analyze and critique the development of capitalism and the role of class struggle in systemic economic change.

ARTHUR BROOKS: There is an old joke, that a socialist is a man who loves humanity in groups of one million and above. That’s unfairly harsh, of course—there are lots and lots of charitable liberals out there. But it’s pretty amusing nonetheless.

Perfect. And it reminded me of an old line, which I learned — and learned the truth of — long ago: “A Marxist is someone who loves humanity in groups of 1 million or more.”

The first step is to see individual faces in our own beliefs. There is an old joke that a Marxist is someone who loves humanity in groups of one million or more.
