“A doctor walks into a bar…” (“hickory daiquiri doc” bar joke)

“A guy walks into a bar…” is a typical form of what has been called the “bar joke.” A form of this joke has a doctor entering a bar and ordering his usual daiquiri, but the bartender gives him something slightly different. “It’s a hickory daiquiri, doc,” the bartender says.

“Hickory daiquiri doc” (a pun on “hickory dickory dock”) has been cited in print since at least 1961.

Don Schram is responsible for the tale of the doctor, addicted to martinis, who finally acceded to his wife’s demand that he give them up in favor of the less-lethal daiquiri. But he could have olives in his daiquiris…Routine established, the doctor dropped in his favorite pub and ordered a daiquiri. Out of olives, the bartender inserted a hickory nut. “What’s that?” the physician asked. Replied the bartender: “A hickory daiquiri, doc.”

Just to relieve the tension over The Fire, let’s consider photog Jack Miller’s story about the doctor.

There was this doctor, see? And every afternoon at exactly 2 o’clock, he dashed down to the bar for one—just one—of his favorite drinks. This was an odd-ball concoction—a daiquiri with ground-up almonds in it.

It was approaching 2 o’clock this particular day when the bartender discovered to his dismay that he was out of almonds. He sent the waitress searching for almonds. But all she could find were hickory nuts.

So the doctor came in and the bartender made his drink. The doctor took one sip, puckered in disgust, and demanded, “What kind of drink is this ??!!”

The bartender paled and confessed:

“It’s a hickory daiquiri, Doc.”

Hazelnut Daiquiri
Mr F.B.I.

A doctor made it his regular habit to stop off at a bar for a hazelnut daiquiri on his way home. The bartender knew of his habit, and would always have the drink waiting at precisely 5.03PM. One afternoon, as the end of the workday approached, the bartender was dismayed to find out that he was out of hazelnut syrup.  Thinking quickly, he threw together a daiquiri made with hickory nuts and set it on the bar.

The doctor came in at his regular time, took one sip of the drink and exclaimed, “This isn’t a hazelnut daiquiri?” “No, I’m sorry,” replied the bartender, “It’s a hickory daiquiri, Doc.”

So a Doctor walks into a bar…
submitted November 9, 2015 by sittinindacaddy
As he takes a seat at the bar, he looks up in confusion wondering why he can’t locate the bartender and whether or not he should be concerned by the mouse perched behind the bar looking him dead in the eye. The mouse squeaks, “What’ll you have, doc?” Taken aback and considering the possibility of hallucinations, the doctor responds, “Anything. Just make me a drink.” So the mouse leaves and then returns with a drink. The doctor takes a sip, is promptly disgusted, and spits it all out. “Mouse, what is this drink?”

The mouse responds, “It’s a hickory daiquiri, Doc.”

Doctor smith always goes to a bar after work and orders a chestnut daiquiri. One day he walks in and the bartender makes him a daiquiri. The doc tastes the drink and says, “hey bartender is this a chestnut daiquiri?”
The bartender replies, “nope, we were out of chestnuts. It’s a hickory daiquiri doc.”
