“A $300 bat won’t fix your 50 cent swing” (baseball adage)

Baseball bats can be expensive, but an expensive bat doesn’t automatically turn a player into a good hitter. “A $300 bat won’t fix your 50 cent swing” is a baseball adage of unknown authorship.

The prices of the bat and the swing often change, but the meaning of the adage is the same. “How you gunna have a 400$ bat & 2$ swing?” was cited on Twitter on September 15, 2011. “We have a saying in softball. ‘A $300 bat don’t fix a $3 swing!’ Go get some lessons first so you didn’t waste your money!” was cited on Twitter on March 2, 2012.

There is an old saying in baseball, “A $300 bat isn’t going to fix your 50 cent swing.” The same applies to the college recruiting process.  Paying for a professional video or hiring a recruiting service isn’t going to make you Marcus Mariota.
