Texit (Texas + exit)

Texas is a state of the United States that was once its own country; some people still think Texas should be independent. “Texit” (Texas + exit) is a term to describe a Texas exit from the United States. The term is patterned after “Grexit” (Greece/Greek + exit), the potential exit of Greece from the European Union.

“Will USA experiece ‘texit’ (opt-out Texas) as opposed to EU’s ‘grexit’?” was cited on Twitter on November 12, 2012. “Monckton: It’s Time For ‘Texit’ — Texas Should Secede, Thatcher Advisor Says” was an article in The Daily Caller on June 4, 2016.

Wikipedia: Texas
Texas (Spanish: Texas or Tejas [ˈtexas]) is the second largest state in the United States by both area and population. Geographically located in the south central part of the country, Texas shares borders with the other US states of Louisiana to the east, Arkansas to the northeast, Oklahoma to the north, New Mexico to the west, and the Mexican states of Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo León, and Tamaulipas to the southwest, while the Gulf of Mexico is to the southeast.

The term “six flags over Texas” refers to several nations that have ruled over the territory. Spain was the first European country to claim the area of Texas. France held a short-lived colony. Mexico controlled the territory until 1836 when Texas won its independence, becoming an independent Republic. In 1845, Texas joined the United States as the 28th state. The state’s annexation set off a chain of events that caused the Mexican–American War in 1846. A slave state before the American Civil War, Texas declared its secession from the US in early 1861, and officially joined the Confederate States of America on March 2 of the same year. After the Civil War and the restoration of its representation in the federal government, Texas entered a long period of economic stagnation.

AUSTIN, TX – Lord Christopher Monckton, 3rd Viscount of Brenchley, thinks Texas should secede from the United States.

In his native Britain, voters are preparing to decide whether they will remain in the European Union.

Here in the United States, Texas just last month considered putting secession on the ballot.  The Republican Party of Texas killed the measure.
