“Rice milk? I didn’t even know rice had nipples”

"What’s this about rice milk? I didn’t even know rice had nipples!” is a rice milk joke that has been printed on several images. “Rice milk (I didn’t even know rice had nipples)” was published in a newspaper from Wales on February 2002.

“I saw rice milk in the store. I didn’t even know rice had nipples” was popularized in the stand-up comedy act of New York-born comedian Demetri Martin, although it’s not known if Martin had told the joke as early as 2002.

Wikipedia: Rice milk
Rice milk is a grain milk made from rice. It is mostly made from brown rice and commonly unsweetened. The sweetness in most rice milk varieties is generated by a natural enzymatic process that cleaves the carbohydrates into sugars, especially glucose, similar to the Japanese amazake. Some rice milks may nevertheless be sweetened with sugarcane syrup or other sugars.

20 February 2002, South Wales Echo (Cardiff, UK), “Losing it with the detox diet; Life in the bus lane” by Martin Wells, pg. 6:
I mean, if she wants to put herself through it, spend hours trudging through bizarre health food shops looking for ludicrously expensive wheat-free bread (well, if it’s wheatfree it’s not bloody bread, is it? ), rice milk (I didn’t even know rice had nipples) and millet (strictly for the birds) - all staples for the devoted detoxer - good for her.
