Yuglies (young + ugly; Dallas Cowboys offensive line)

The Dallas Cowboys football team fan blog “Blogging the Boys” (BTB) sought a new name for the 2011 Cowboys’ young and revamped offensive line. A poster named “Shaymer” wrote on August 29, 2011:

“The Yugglies Instead of ‘big uglies’, a merging of the ‘Young Uglies’”

The next day, on August 30, 2011, a BTB headline was “Year Of The Yuglies: Ten Things I’m Thinking About The Cowboys Offensive Line.” The term “yugly” (young + ugly) has also been spelled “yuggly” and “yougly.”

“Fugly"(fucking ugly) has been a popular slang term since at least 1984. The less-popular “yugly” (yucky + ugly) has also been used.

The youth movement is in full effect, as it emerged that Jason Garrett’s preferred offensive line starters includes both Phil Costa and Bill Nagy. In one of Monday’s threads, a hilarious conversation about nicknames for the trench guys cropped up and someone coined the term ‘Yuglies’, referring to the tender ages and the standard O Line term of ‘Big Uglies’. I decided to collect some thoughts on the line that I’ve had over the last 48 hours into a neat little list. So here are ten loosely joined thoughts on the Year of the Yuglies.

Speaking of thin, it seems you cannot open the sports page each day without hearing that the Cowboys have jettisoned another offensive lineman. “The Youglies” as they have been dubbed (as in Young and Ugly) are taking over the O-Line.
