"Water separates the people of the world, wine unites them” (or, “wine brings them/people together") is a saying of unknown origin that has been cited in print since at least 1971. The water that “separates the people of the world” usually describes the oceans.
The Brotherhood of the Knights of the Vine (established in 1964) has used “Water separates the people of the world; wine unites them” as a slogan.

It has been said that water separates the people of the World, but wine unites them (Gates, 1971). We hope so.
23 June 1987, Rockford (IL) Register Star, “U.S. wine societies blossom” by John R. Hailman, pg. 2D, col. 2:
America’s officially recognized wine society on the international scene is the Brotherhood of the Knights of the Vine, headquartered in Sacramento. This group, founded in the European model but completely autonomous, belongs to the international association of such societies, and exchanges yearly visits with other chevaliers and Commanderies in Europe. Its initiation ceremony gives some idea of the spirit of the Brotherhood. After repeating the official slogan “Water separates the people of the world; wine unites them,” the initiate Knight denounces milk and water, and dedicates himself to the wines of America.

Wine certainly unites people. Here at my place, it serves to get people together while I attempt to cook for them. The wine I’ve got down pretty well, united people with it is natural, my cooking is sometimes hot or miss
Wine is the drink of the gods, milk the drink of babies, tea the drink of women, and water the drink of beasts (John Stuart Blackie).
Wow, your slogan is very true. In actually it’s a real fact. After taking wine people forget all things.
Wine is always present if we have occasions. Our family is not a heavy drinker so we just drink wine and since it has health benefits, we make sure that we always have a stock.
I somewhat agree to the slogan “Water separates the people of the world, wine unites them”. It’s true that the water meant here is the bodies of water such as oceans and seas which are separating lands as well as people. While for the wine, most people like to drink it, specially for occasions and important gatherings.
In this present days may I add to the phrase? Hatred separates us and technology unite us.
Interesting quote here “It has been said that water separates the people of the World, but wine unites them” I do consider myself an afficionado of Wine and healthy weight loss supplements for living a great lifestyle.
I agree with Taruhan in the phrase “Hatred separates us and technology unite us” Technology really reach out people despite of the distance and connect heart to heart and that makes us be united on the people we love.
Very true fact. People who drink together can do anything for one another. I heard somewhere that A Wine can make anybody to come closer.
“Water separates the people of the world, wine unites them, beer makes bros fight each other and wake up with a black eye.”
