“The slower it comes off, the longer it stays off” (weight loss adage)

"The slower is comes off, the longer it stays off” is a weight loss adage that has been cited in print since at least 2000. The reasoning behind the adage is that a person who slowly and diligently applies a diet and exercise program to lose weight is more likely to achieve long-term success, while quick weight loss is often followed by a quick weight gain. Authorship of the adage is unknown.

Hey, this is good!  The slower it comes off the longer it stays off.  Forget big results and think gradual lifestyle changes.

It’s better to lose a pound a week than 3.  The slower it comes off, the longer it stays off.  If you keep the weight off for 3 years, you’ll be in a group of people smaller than lottery winners.  I would worry about keeping the 1st 60 pounds from coming back & giving me a big hug in 2 years.

It took me twelve months to lose 24 pounds, which comes out to an average weight loss of 2 pounds a month. Many people, who want to lose weight, would consider that too slow. But take my word for it, the slower it comes off, the longer it stays off.

Really, this is one of the best programs out there. We just have to be patient with the slowness of the weight loss. REally, the slower it comes off, the longer it stays off!!!

Motivation Monday – 1 pound?
FEBRUARY 18, 2013 BY: DI HICKMAN
Monday motivation in the visual form! Despite what you see on the Biggest Loser, losing 5-10lbs a week is NOT healthy nor desirable. You should be aiming to lose MAXIMUM 1% of your current body weight per week. So if you are a 200lbs person the maximum you should be looking to lose per week is 2lbs. The SLOWER it comes off the LONGER it stays off. A 1lb weight loss is significant in terms of shape. The photo above indicates what 1lb looks like.
