“The best time to make a sale is right after a sale”

“The best time to make a sale is right after a sale” is a popular selling adage. That’s the time when a seller’s confidence is the highest, and success can follow success. “The best time to make a sale is when you’ve just made one” was cited in print in 1951, when lecturer Arthur E. Biard included it in a Real Estate News letter.

Motivational speaker and author Brian Tracy has used the saying in The Psychology of Selling: The Art of Closing Sales (1995).

8 July 1951, San Antonio (TX) Sunday Light, “‘How to Sell’ Told Again,” pg. 1-E, col. 8:
Real Estate News letter, a national periodical quotes Arthur E. Biard, the lecturer, on these “common-sense rules” for selling property:

“The best time to make a sale is when you’ve just made one.”

I was one of those kids growing up that thought my dad was totally full of bologna.
(...)
Essentially this is what he said, “I’m happy for you and proud of you but you can celebrate at the end of the day. Right now you need to pick up the phone and make your next call. The best time to make a sale is right after you’ve made a sale.”

As disappointed as I was, my dad was right. People can always sense your enthusiasm, passion and confidence even if it’s over the telephone. Use that enthusiasm to your advantage. Let it ride.

3. Know the best time to make a sale.
The best time to make a sale is after you make a sale.

I put this to the test many times and most of the time good things have happened. After making a sale, you are feeling the best you will ever feel during your selling career. You are optimistic and believe you are on top of the world. This is the frame of mind you want to be in when you approach prospects.
