“The best things in life are free, but sooner or later the government will find a way to tax them”

"The best things in life are free, but sooner or later the government will find a way to tax them” is a jocular one-line saying about taxes that has been printed on many images. “If the best things in life are free, it’s because we haven’t figured out a way to tax them” was printed in a 1972 newspaper. “The good news is that the best things in life are free. The bad news is that the government is trying to figure out a way to tax them too” was printed in a 1986 newspaper.

“The best things in life are free, but sooner or later the government will find a way to tax them” was posted on the newsgroup rec.humor on April 5, 1996.

The good news is that the best things in life are free. The bad news is that the government is trying to figure out a way to tax them too.
