“Soup is liquid comfort”

"Soup is liquid comfort” has appeared on a few lists of food quotations, but there is no obvious source of the saying. The term “liquid comfort” has long been applied to alcoholic drinks. A 1996 newspaper article about chicken soup stated: “As a broth, it is liquid comfort to precede the main dish.” A 2002 newspaper article stated: “Tomato soup is liquid comfort.”

“Soup is liquid comfort” has shown up on food quotations lists since 2007.
