Snow-Trolling

“Global warming” is a scientific and also a political issue—the political left says it exists and the political right says it doesn’t exist. When a cold day happens, members of the political right often joke about “global warming.”

Chris Hayes, the politically progressive host of MSNBC’s All In with Chris Hayes, wrote on Twitter about his show on January 2, 2014:

“Excited about tonight’s rundown.  A special look at the right-wing’s annual tradition of ‘snow-trolling.’”

The term “snow-trolling” (also “snow trolling,” without the hyphen) was soon the subject of many Twitter messages.

It’s That Time Again. The Willful Ignorance of Right Wing Snow Trolling.

It’s time again.

There’s snow, so there can’t be global warming. I guess I’ll have to update my video on this, yet again. This one is from 2009, a period of extreme winter weather in the US, just before the drought and heat events of 2010-2012 –  but still applies.

MSNBC’s Chris Hayes complains of Drudge-fueled ‘snow-trolling’ on global warming
BY CHARLIE SPIERING | JANUARY 3, 2014 AT 8:48 AM
MSNBC’s Chris Hayes is tired of conservatives snarking about global warming every time it gets cold.

During his show Thursday evening, Hayes complained of the “strange bizarre underworld of climate trolls” that came to life when Matt Drudge ironically linked an article on the Drudge Report about cold weather.

“Of course, no one ever said that climate change meant it wouldn’t ever be cold,” Hayes said defensively, calling the annual tradition “willful stupidity” of conservatives “who delight being on the wrong side of history.”

Conservative snow-trolling of global warming expected to reach record highs today
By Scott Kaufman

Conservatives are having a field day “sticking it” to liberals about the weather. They have no time for scientific theories like “Arctic amplification,” which only perfectly models how general warming trends can lead to increasingly severe cold snaps. After all, like evolution, Arctic amplification is “just a theory.”
