"Realville” isn’t any actual city or town, but it’s an expression for a place that exists “in the real world” and has real world problems. Politicians and economists talk about proposed programs and theories, but then someone might challenge that by beginning, “I live in Realville.”
“Live in Realville” has been cited in print since at least 2005 and 2009. Conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh has used the terms “Realville” and (to a lesser extent) “Literalville” since at least 2010. Limbaugh has often said he’s the mayor of the small town of Realville. On May 17, 2012, in a segment titled “The Mayor of Realville Grapples with the Illogic of Liberalism,” Limbaugh said, “That’s our town motto. Things are so simple, it’s hard to understand.”

Revisiting Realville [post 10]
God intended us to live in Realville. It is a possibility, and blessings abound in Realville.

There are up to 24 families - all different demographics - that live in “Realville”.

RUSH: I live in Realville, Literalville.
Friedman and Brooks Still Have No Clue Who Barack Obama Really Is

RUSH: See, and these are the smart people, and there isn’t any science in the global warming these people believe in. Folks, if there were science, I’d be a believer. I do not have my head buried in the sand. I’m not an ostrich. I live in Realville. I’m the mayor. I’m the town council president. I’m the police chief. There aren’t a whole lot of people that live in Literalville, but I do. And manmade global warming is not science. It’s a consensus. It’s a guess. It’s a good guess. It’s a best guess. It’s a vote. And a majority of people have been paid to say that man is causing the climate to warm up. And that’s why there’s global warming, that enough people have been paid to say so.

Surely you jest, Francois.
I and others facing abusive regulations trumpeted by faceless, agenda driven bureaucrats live in Realville.
Folks abstracting surveys and experts from afar live somewhere else: The City of Elite.

“Obama Calls Student Attacked by Limbaugh in Birth-Control Debate.”
Limbaugh ended yesterday’s segment with one of his refrains: He lives in “Realville.” He needs to check his GPS. That was not from Realville.

Rush Limbaugh, modern Epimenides?
Wikipedia tells me that Limbaugh lives in West Palm Beach, FL. Yet for years now he has been telling listeners something different:
“Now, look, folks, as I’ve told you countless times, I live in Literalville.” [Transcript, 10.9.2010]
For someone who cares about facts so much, you’d think he’d get his literal, real town of residence straight. The mayor of Realville or Literalville? Can he be whichever he chooses? Apparently so, but not at the same time. This is from a few weeks ago:
“And again, as the mayor of Realville, I live in Literalville. I’ll tell you what to do.” [Transcript, 15.3.2012]
Apparently, one of the perks of ruling Realville is that you live in the next town over (follow Non Sequitur Trail, take a left–no, right…). Perhaps when he is mayor of Literalville, he decamps to Realville.
The Mayor of Realville Grapples with the Illogic of Liberalism
May 17, 2012
RUSH: See, that’s the dirty little secret that nobody’s talking about. Again, mayor of Realville, things are so simple, they’re impossible to understand. That’s our town motto. Things are so simple, it’s hard to understand.

RUSH: So, yeah, I said that, but this is taking me out of context in order to plug me in to their little hole or their little maze. Anybody who listens to this program or listens to me knows exactly what I said about this, what I mean by it. And this is the problem I get into. You know, I live in Realville, and in Realville things are really simple. They’re so simple, they’re hard to understand. And most people… Realville is a very small town, folks. There are very few people that live there.
We have fewer people in Realville than live in Rio Linda.
Realville sometimes slaps you upside the face. Realville does not have much in common with platitudes and “hope and change.” Realville has to do with “what is.”

“I live in Realville, and I’m hell-bent here on people understanding exactly who Barack Obama is. I don’t think this guy ought to get 10% of the vote if there were an election today. It is an utter disaster, what’s happened, and what is happening.”
