Random Acts of Pizza

"Random acts of pizza” (random acts of kindness + pizza) gives free pizza to people. Figaro’s Pizza had “Random Acts of Pizza” campaigns in 2004 and 2006, when it randomly delivered free pizza to local residents.

The Reddit website Random Acts of Pizza started up in 2010 (there is a trademark from December 7, 2010) and provided easy access for anyone to commit a Random Act of Pizza. In April 2013, free pizzas were sent to people in Boston in the aftermath of the Boston Marathon bombings.

There is also an active trademark for “Random Acts of Pizza” from September 2002, registered by the Donatos Pizzeria Corporation.

What is it?
Random Acts of Pizza is a community on the website Reddit.com that facilitates the sending and receiving of pizzas between strangers, because… who doesn’t like helping out a stranger?
The purpose is to have fun, eat pizza and help each other out. Together, we aim to restore faith in humanity, one slice at a time.

San Francisco (CNN)—Arranging to have pizzas delivered to a stranger’s door is a classic prank.

On the Web, it’s charity.

Ashley Qualls found that out recently when she posted an offer on the link-sharing website called Reddit. The Santa Clarita, California, native was feeling especially charitable one day and asked the site’s audience of 18.8 million visitors how she could donate to people in need.

“Someone had commented saying, ‘Hey, you should take this over to Random Acts of Pizza,’ “ Qualls said.

Much of the effort has been coordinated online, through social media and websites like Reddit.com. The campaign has been nicknamed “Random Acts of Pizza,” which has its own website, http://www.randomactsofpizza.com, which is described as a “sub-community” of Reddit.
