The state of Oklahoma has been infrequently dubbed “Diet Texas” (the state of Texas on a diet). McSweeney’s published on July 27, 2006:
“Oklahoma isn’t the Midwest. Oklahoma is Diet Texas.”
Texas Senator Ted Cruz ran for the Republican presidential nomination in 2016, and he won the primary states of Texas, Oklahoma and Alaska. Late night television comedian Stephen Colbert said on the The Late Show on March 2, 2016 that Cruz had won Texas, Diet Texas (Oklahoma) and Snow Texas (Alaska).
STATES I REFUSE TO ACKNOWLEDGE AS MIDWESTERN.

I hesitate to include Oklahoma, because I think people from Oklahoma know they’re not Midwestern. Oklahoma City is further away from Chicago than New York City is from Chicago. Oklahoma isn’t the Midwest. Oklahoma is Diet Texas.

Super Tuesday has come and gone and the voters on the right spoke loud and proud when they said, “blahahahlahlah lah lah lah,” Stephen Colbert said speaking in tongues next to a photo of Donald Trump on Wednesday’s “Late Show.”
While Trump swept most of the states, Ted Cruz managed to win a few states, what Colbert called Texas, Diet Texas and Snow Texas (Oklahoma and Alaska).
Colbert on Cruz winning Texas, Oklahoma and Alaska. “So he won Texas, Diet Texas and Snow Texas...” 😏
