New York’s B1G Team (Rutgers Scarlet Knights slogan)

The Rutgers University Scarlet Knights athletic teams joined the Big Ten Conference (B1G) in 2014. Although Rutgers is located in New Brunswick, New Jersey and the football team plays in Piscataway, New Jersey, Rutgers has many fans in New York City.

“#rutgers : New York’s #B1G team?” was cited on Twitter on November 17, 2012—well before Rutgers officially joined the Big Ten Conference. In 2013, the Big Ten announced a partnership with Yankee Stadium and the New Era Pinstripe Bowl; there would be B1G signage at all New York Yankees home games.

Syracuse University’s “New York’s College Team” is a similar college athletic slogan that has been used in New York City. In June 2016, a Yankee Stadium banner for “New York’s College Team” (Syracuse University) was replaced with a banner for “New York’s B1G Team” (Rutgers University).

Wikipedia: Rutgers Scarlet Knights
The Rutgers Scarlet Knights are the athletic teams that represent Rutgers University’s New Brunswick campus. In sports, Rutgers is chiefly known for being the “Birthplace of College Football”, hosting the first ever intercollegiate football game on 6 November 1869 in which Rutgers defeated a team from the College of New Jersey (now Princeton University) with a score of 6 runs to 4.

Among the first American schools to participate in intercollegiate athletics, Rutgers currently fields 27 teams in the Big Ten Conference which participates in Division I competition, as sanctioned by the National Collegiate Athletic Association in the following sports: baseball, basketball, crew, cross country, field hockey, football, golf, gymnastics, lacrosse, soccer, softball, tennis, track and field, swimming and diving, wrestling, and volleyball.

Big Ten Announces Partnership With New York Yankees and New Era Pinstripe Bowl
June 3, 2013

The eight-year affiliation between the two legendary brands features the Big Ten’s commitment to play in the annual New Era Pinstripe Bowl from 2014 to 2021. The Big Ten’s partnership with the New Era Pinstripe Bowl will mark the conference’s first bowl game tie-in on the East Coast. Additionally, for all New York Yankees regular season games, beginning in 2014, the Big Ten will have a significant branding presence in Yankee Stadium, featuring a fixed sign along the first-base line and home plate rotating signage.
