Monsatan (Monsanto + satan)

Monsanto is an American multinational agrochemical and agricultural biotechnology corporation. Many people have criticized the company for its genetically engineered foods, giving the company the nickname “Monsatan” or “MonSatan” (Monsanto + satan). “MonSatan” was posted in the newsgroup sci.environment on October 1, 1998.

Now if Monsanto (read MonSatan) could GM some of that dopey stuff I used to feed Colin on, and sell it cheap in the supermarkets, they could get popular.

I’m still pretty right-wing in a lot of views, but I regard myself independent enough to warrant each event/point etc on it’s own merits rather than to just adopt the ‘standard party line’. For instance, I feel passionately about ‘MonSatan’ as you call them, because I am anti genetic modification of the food chain. Some people call me an anarchist, yet my

I would have thought it nigh on impossible to find any ‘dirt’ on such an altruistic corporation as Monsanto.

A former managing director of one of Sainsbury’s companies has spoken of a culture of bullying and autocracy in the biotech industry. No wonder one scientist revealed that his company was fondly known by its employees as “Monsatan”.

Labour were elected to represent the people - not to be mouthpieces for unsavoury firms like Monsanto, nicknamed ‘Monsatan’, in a telling bit of black comedy.

Activists have torn up Monsanto test plots in the United Kingdom. British newspapers call Monsanto the “Frankenstein food giant” and the “biotech bully boy” so routinely that some Monsanto employees jokingly refer to their employer as “MonSatan.”

Urban Dictionary
Monsatan
refers to the evil empire constructed by the Monsanto Corporation. Farmers started using this term around 2000 when the company began charging tech fees for genetically modified soybeans with resistance to Roundup herbicide and raised the price of their Roundup chemicals at the same time. In recent years the term has enjoyed expanded usage when describing Monsanto’s efforts to impact the entire food chain with their genetically modified products.
