“How many personal-injury lawyers does it take to change a light bulb?” (lawyer joke)

Personal injury lawyers sometimes have an unfavorable “ambulance chaser” reputation. A combination lawyer joke and lightbulb joke is:

Q: How many personal-injury lawyers does it take to change a light bulb?
A: Three — one to turn the bulb, one to shake him off the ladder and one to sue the ladder company.

The joke has been cited in print since at least 1996.

Personal-injury lawyers sometimes are regarded as ambulance chasers who will sue on the slightest of pretexts. They even inspire jokes:

How many personal-injury lawyers does it take to change a light bulb? Three — one to turn the bulb, one to shake him off the ladder and one to sue the ladder company.

STOSSEL: OK. How many personal injury lawyers does it take to change a light bulb? Three, one to turn the bulb, one to shake him off the ladder, and a third to sue the ladder company.

NORMALLY we eschew lightbulb jokes, but having seen so many advertisements on the telly, we pass on: “How many personal injury lawyers does it take to screw in a lightbulb?

“Three.

“One to change the bulb, one to shake him off the ladder, and one to sue the ladder company.”

You’ve heard the old joke: It takes three personal injury lawyers to change a lightbulb — one to turn the bulb, another to shake him off the ladder, and the third to sue the ladder company.
