“Holy jalapeño!”
“Holy jalapeño!” is an expression of surprise or astonishment that has been cited in print since at least 1977. Several foods with jalapeño peppers have been named “Holy Jalapeño.”
“Holy mackerel!” is an expression of surprise that has been cited in print since at least 1867. Similar food expressions (some also rhyme with “holy”) include “Holy cannoli!”, “Holy guacamole!”, “Holy pepperoni!” and “Holy shiitake!”
