Fourbucks or Fivebucks (Starbucks nickname)

Starbucks Coffee Company is a coffeehouse chain that began in Seattle, Washington in 1971. There are many Starbucks outlets in New York City, especially in Manhattan.

There has been some criticism that Starbucks coffee is overpriced. The Starbucks nickname of “Four Bucks” (or “Fourbucks")—indicating the price of a cup of coffee—has been cited in print since at least 2000. The Starbucks nickname of “Five Bucks” (or “Fivebucks") has been cited in print since at least 1998.

Other Starbucks nicknames include “Charbucks” (since 1994), “Starfucks” (since 1995) and “Starbugs” (since 2012).

As always, Seinfeld’s observational stand-up talked about the everyday things in life, such as people’s obsession with coffee.

“I know people who are stopping for coffee on the way to Starbucks,” he said. “Or ‘Fourbucks’ as my friend likes to call it.”

STARBUCKS
Popular Nickname: Four Bucks
Did You Know? By the late 1990s, Starbucks was everywhere and “Four Bucks” became one of the favorite nicknames (along with the more insulting “Starsucks” and, well, you know). As a trend marketing specialist said in a USA Today article, “We live in a society where people think $5 is $1 because of Starbucks.”
