"Fighting for peace is like screwing/fucking/fornicating/raping for virginity/chastity/love” has been a popular saying since the Vietnam War era of the late 1960s. The saying is sometimes attributed to the comedians and social critics Lenny Bruce (1925-1966) and George Carlin (1937-2008), but Bruce died before the saying was first recorded and there is no evidence that the saying originated in any Carlin routine.
“Fighting for peace is like raping for love” has been cited in print since at least May 1968. In 1969 and 1970, the saying was twice attributed to “an underground pundit.”
