“Everything we eat is processed sunshine”

"Everything we eat is processed sunshine” is a one-line saying that has been printed on many images. The St. Louis (MO) Post-Dispatch reported in 2001 that an organic farmer sold T-shirts saying, “We sell processed sunshine—eat it or freeze it within 24 hours.” “Very pleased with the thought that everything we eat is actually processed sunshine” was posted on Twitter on March 5, 2010.

“We have a T-shirt that says, ‘We sell processed sunshine—eat it or freeze it within 24 hours.’”

Everything we eat is processed sunshine.

The sun shines down on the earth, and plants process the energy from the light into new components that hold sugars throughout them. Animals eat those plants, processing the components and sugars into different components and different sugars. We eat those animals, and in doing so take energy that comes from the sun and has been processed through plants, animals, fungi, and bacteria.
I subsist entirely off a steady diet of sun.
