Employment Prevention Agency (Environmental Protection Agency or EPA nickname)

The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) was formed in 1970 to protect human health and the environment. The Environmental Protection Agency has been nicknamed the “Employment Prevention Agency” since at least 2010, mostly by Republicans who believe that the EPA’s regulations strangle commerce.

Other EPA nicknames include “Environmental Persecution Agency,” “Environmental Poisoning Agency,” “Environmental Pollution Agency,” “Environmental Propaganda Agency” and “Extremely Pathetic Agency.”

Wikipedia: United States Environmental Protection Agency
The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA or sometimes USEPA) is an agency of the U.S. federal government which was created for the purpose of protecting human health and the environment by writing and enforcing regulations based on laws passed by Congress. The EPA was proposed by President Richard Nixon and began operation on December 2, 1970, after Nixon signed an executive order. The order establishing the EPA was ratified by committee hearings in the House and Senate. The agency is led by its Administrator, who is appointed by the president and approved by Congress. The current administrator is Gina McCarthy. The EPA is not a Cabinet department, but the administrator is normally given cabinet rank.

The EPA has its headquarters in Washington, D.C., regional offices for each of the agency’s ten regions, and 27 laboratories. The agency conducts environmental assessment, research, and education. It has the responsibility of maintaining and enforcing national standards under a variety of environmental laws, in consultation with state, tribal, and local governments.

The GOP response earlier this year was to try and strip the EPA of its relevant authority. The effort didn’t work, but it might next year. Republicans could try the same approach or attempt to cut funding for what it now mocks as the Employment Prevention Agency.

Pretending to protect the environment, while making the rest of us suffer into paying higher taxes. And making sure our jobs are outsourced overseas mainly into China and India.

Cuccinelli wows conservative crowd (Video One)
By Karyn McDermott
“Well, it’s not been a boring year,” in freezing temperatures Monday, hundreds gathered at the Bell Tower in the grounds of the Virginia Capitol to hear the Commonwealth’s Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli fire them up on his constitutional battles against the federal government.
(...)
Cuccinelli then went on to ridicule a favorite nemesis – the EPA; or as he calls them, the Employment Prevention Agency.

Obama’s EPA as an Employment Prevention Agency

It’s clear that the EPA has lost its way. Since its inception in 1970, the agency has slowly morphed from an entity with a well-defined mission of cleaning up the environment to one that specializes in natural resource development obstructionism. The EPA is now the gatekeeper, deciding which energy projects move forward and which die in a regulatory labyrinth.
