New York is asking men to sit tight when they ride the subway, as it seeks to tackle a modern menace known as “manspreading”.
 
The city’s Metropolitan Transport Authority has launched a campaign to make men sit with their legs together, to prevent male passengers hogging space on packed underground trains.
 
“Courtesy counts: manners make a better ride,” reads one of the new posters, which shows passengers being forced to stand by a man making himself a little too comfortable and taking up two seats.
