Cable News Network (CNN) began in 1980 as the first all-news television channel. Some critics of CNN have claimed that the network is biased and favors the politicians Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton. The nickname “Clinton News Network” has been cited in print since at least 1992 and was popularized during the presidency of Bill Clinton from 1993-2001. However, the name “Clinton News Network” was also used during his wife Hillary Clinton’s runs for the Democratic presidential nominations in 2008 and 2016.
CNN has also been nicknamed the “Chicken Noodle News” (cited in print since 1981), the “Communist News Network” (cited in print since 1991), “Certainly Not News” (cited in print since 1993), the “CIA News Network” (cited in print since 1997), the “Criminal News Network” (cited in print since 1998), the “Corporate News Network” (cited in print since 1999), the “Cartoon News Network” (cited in print since 2000), the “Crescent News Network” (cited in print since 2002) and “Crap Not News” (cited in print since 2007).
The Cable News Network (CNN) is an American basic cable and satellite television channel that is owned by the Turner Broadcasting System division of Time Warner. The 24-hour cable news channel was founded in 1980 by American media proprietor Ted Turner. Upon its launch, CNN was the first television channel to provide 24-hour news coverage, and was the first all-news television channel in the United States.
While the news channel has numerous affiliates, CNN primarily broadcasts from the Time Warner Center in New York City, and studios in Washington, D.C. and Los Angeles, its headquarters at the CNN Center in Atlanta is only used for weekend programming. CNN is sometimes referred to as CNN/U.S. to distinguish the American channel from its international sister network, CNN International.
